On Tuesday September 3, SWE-HA held it's first General Meeting of FY20. It was a good opportunity to formally introduce the Officers and talk about our goals for the year. The Officers, who make up the Executive Committee, also shared about the many volunteer opportunities that are available including Chair positions, committees, and event volunteers. We also took the opportunity to get some feedback from the attending members about what they're looking to get out of SWE. Along with their interests, they also told us the meeting was too long, so I promise, the next one will be shorter! The next General Meeting will be on February 4 and we'll be talking about elections and the available officer positions. If you are interested in getting involved but haven't had a chance to hear about the available opportunities, send an email to President@HoustonSWE.org, we'd love to have you as a part of the team!

SWE hosted our FY20 Kick-Off Event on Saturday August 24th at 8th Wonder Brewery. Approximately 50 people attended this fun, casual event to introduce our new Officers and let everyone know about this years events and activities. We had a mix of recent grads who are new to Houston and long time SWE-HA members including four past SWE-HA Presidents. Attendees had the opportunity to sign up for committees and we also collected money to provide school supplies to under-served school districts in Houston. If you missed this great event, come to one of our upcoming events! On Tuesday September 3, we'll have our first General Meeting where we'll discuss the SWE organization as well as highlight opportunities and activities within SWE-HA. And if you're new, we're having our New Member Mixer on Thursday September 12th at Present Company. Come meet other SWE members and learn about opportunities within our Section!
