We always welcome more help if you want to get involved with more volunteering activities.
Fresh Start
On Saturday, April 24, 2021, the Society of Women Engineers Houston Area (SWE-HA) section participated in the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Houston Professionals bi-annual Fresh Start STEM event sponsored by HP, as a workshop facilitator. Fresh Start consists of interactive workshops that creatively engage students, ranging from 3rd to 12th grade, to explore the many different disciplines in the field of engineering. The main goal of NSBE Fresh Start is to motivate children to set academic goals in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The spring event was held virtually with students participating from as far as the NSBE Africa chapter. SWE-HA volunteer, Leteshia A. Lowe, hosted three workshops with middle school students, 7th-8th grade, on Scratch Programming, where they learned how to animate their names using the visual block based programming tool. The students really enjoyed learning the programming language, learning about engineering and getting to meet students from all over.

Guest Speaker Opportunity
Girlstart is providing this fall a new program "After School at Home" for girls to be brave, creative, and curious as they engage in fun, hands-on STEM activities, explore different careers, and get inspired by women in STEM from wherever they are this fall.
Girlstart is looking for guest speakers that will like to join their Zoom calls and talk to the girls about their careers, journey into STEM, and offer words of encouragement.
Guest speaking will be available throughout the month of October and will take place between 3:30pm-4:30pm (time zone and school dependent). Guest speakers will have 30 minutes to speak with the girls, share their stories, and answer any questions they might have.
