SWE-HA - Introduce a Girl to Engineering (IAGTE)
The Society of Women Engineers Houston Area (SWE-HA) chapter’s signature outreach event is Introduce a Girl to Engineering (IAGTE)! Partnering with local collegiate sections, SWE-HA coordinates a free, all day event providing hands on interactive STEM workshops to expose girls to different disciplines of engineering. The students have the opportunity to meet women engineers and technologists and hear first-hand about these exciting career paths. Through interactive demonstrations and panel discussions, girls are able to experience the creativity and innovation that occurs in the field of engineering and technology.
In addition to the activities for students, parents, guardians, teachers, counselors, administrators and community leaders are encouraged to participate in the Parent Educator Program (PEP). During the program participants learn about engineering careers, scholarships, college admission and resources, network with SWE members as well as other parents and educators, participate in a panel discussion with select SWE members and outreach experts, complete a hands-on activity and learn best practices for engineering projects with girls. This annual event is held in the fall each year.

GIRL SCOUTS BADGE DAY
Girl Scouts and the Society of Women Engineers Houston Area (SWE-HA) encourage Girl Scouts and their leaders to spend a day doing activities to fulfill almost all the requirements for a badge related to STEM. A typical badge is the “Think like an Engineer Badge” where Brownies complete hands on engineering projects guided by female engineers.
