Professional Development Webinar Series
Past SWE Conference Topic Webinar Series #4 (Our Final Webinar for the FY year!)
Title: Data, Platform and People Strategy for Data Science (WE19 in Anaheim, California)
Speaker: Swapna Tom
Description: For an insight driven company, data is considered as an asset. At HP, we are transforming Business Intelligence and Data Science with a three-pronged strategy: data, platform and people. On the data side, we understand that the single source of truth when mashed up with relatable subject areas can transform into powerful analytical insights. Our top priority is therefore moving the data at speed into a central data lake and for subsequent cataloging. On the platform side, we have designed a hybrid architecture that supports the advanced needs of our analysts, business operations teams, data scientists, and executives. Finally, our most important resource – people: We have pivoted a large part of our team from legacy BI technologies to Big Data and Data Science technologies both using formal training, mentoring programs as well as on the job learning.

Each year approximately 16,000 children are involved with Child Protective Services (CPS) in Harris County. BEARing Gifts provides holiday gifts to children under the care of CPS who otherwise would have no holiday cheer at all. SWE-HA will be hosting a STEM themed toy drive. We'll be collecting the toys at our holiday party. Any (new) toy is welcome for all ages (newborn through teenagers) but we'd love STEM related ones. Please don't wrap the gifts. MindFULLness for Peak Performance: The Cure for Infobesity!
It's no secret we are bombarded daily with an overload of information and expectations from the news, work, social media and other sources. INFObesity is the term describing the difficulty in sifting through information overload to make effective decisions. It affects our performance as well as our working relationships. Through Mind-FULL-ness practices - including focus, high performance habits, emotional intelligence, assumption busting and bias awareness, personal energy management, strategy and meditation time - we find a way to simplify and make sense of the craziness, forming effective strategies for high work performance moving forward. Participants will receive tips and make a personal plan to engage in the activities to reduce ineffectiveness.

World's Largest Conference For Women Engineers - Date Approaching

WE18's theme, Let's Break Boundaries is rooted in the notion that all women engineers, young and old, veterans, those in the early stages of their career, and engineers still pursuing their collegiate degree, are breaking boundaries both personally and for women across the globe.
The conference itself breaks boundaries by being the largest gathering of women engineers across all major engineering disciplines. Facing challenges and breaking through barriers is something SWE has done since its inception in 1950. 2018 and WE18 will be no exception.
For registration please click here: SWE18 Registration Link
